Continues to increase the volume of the uterus, it becomes crowded in the pelvic cavity, and puts pressure on neighboring organs, so that the expectant mother may feel frequent urination. Also, due to the tension of the ligament of the uterus a pregnant woman may experience periodic dragging pain in the abdomen.
During pregnancy there may appear small nodules on the breast in the area of nipple and areola – they are modified sebaceous glands. They are called Montgomery’s nodules and persist for a period of lactation.
Montgomery glands are so named because of the name of the Irish obstetrician Feterstouna William Montgomery, who first described the data of the structure. They perform a very important function – they secrete special substances that protect the breast from an infection and inflammation during breast feeding. After completion of the feeding period, these glands disappear by themselves.
