If the expectant mother didn’t make ultrasound at the 23rd week of pregnancy, it can be done now too, at week 24. At this stage of pregnancy the fetometry is usually carried out – the measurement of fetal size. The head circumference, abdominal, limb length are measured, allowing you to determine whether the fetus size corresponds to the expected term of the pregnancy.
The future baby has already reached the sufficient size to determine the availability of malformations by ultrasound examination. For this purpose doctors study the structure of the child’s organs – heart, lungs, stomach, kidneys, bladder and adrenal glands.
Also, in the sixth month of pregnancy, an ultrasound is necessary to evaluate the amniotic fluid. Increase or decrease of the amount or presence of impurities may be indicative of abnormalities during pregnancy. It is also important to study the placenta, as far as it is responsible for the blood supply and nutrition of the fetus. Ultrasound allows to determine it’s position, any anomalies and placental development. Violation of placental development can occur by increasing or decreasing of its thickness.
The planned examination by a gynecologist, watching your pregnancy, suggests on this week:
- regular measurement of size of the expectant mother body (weight, height, increasing and diverging size of the bones of the pelvis);
- a careful study of your blood pressure will tell the doctor whether there can occur unforeseen situations during childbirth arising from its jumps;
- usual urine and blood samples.
